Terms of use

Apple's standard licence covers the app itself. These terms add the Fihris Intelligence subscription — credits, renewal, cancellation, and what the relay will and won't answer.

1. The app itself #

Fihris is licensed to you, not sold, under Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement — the default EULA that applies to every app on the App Store, published at apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula. That agreement governs your licence to install and use Fihris on your Apple devices.

The rest of this page adds the terms for Fihris Intelligence, the optional subscription that answers questions through a server we operate. If anything here conflicts with Apple's standard EULA, Apple's EULA wins for the app licence, and these terms apply to the subscription.

Fihris is provided by Fihris LLC, Saudi Arabia. Contact: [email protected].

2. Your work is yours #

Your papers, PDFs, notes, highlights, mind maps, analyses and manuscripts are yours. We claim no rights in them, and we have no copy of them: they live on your device and, if you turn sync on, in your own iCloud account. See the privacy policy for what that means in detail.

You are responsible for having the right to use the PDFs you import. Fihris helps you find and download papers from sources such as arXiv, but the terms of the source and of the publisher are between you and them.

3. What you can buy #

  • Fihris Pro — a one-time purchase. It unlocks iCloud sync, mind maps, analysis, manuscripts and Export everything. It never gates AI.
  • Fihris Intelligence — an auto-renewable subscription, monthly or yearly, that pays for answers generated through Fihris's relay.
  • Credit top-up — a one-time purchase of extra credits for subscribers who use up the monthly allowance.

Prices, trial length and renewal terms are on the subscription page and on the purchase screen in the app.

Everything else in Fihris is free, including asking questions on your device, on Apple's private cloud, or with your own Claude or ChatGPT key.

4. Credits #

A credit is the unit Fihris Intelligence is metered in. Each kind of action costs a fixed number of credits, and the app shows the full table before you subscribe and in Settings ▸ AI: a grounded question costs less than a literature matrix, and nothing in the table costs more than a matrix. The table is part of the product, and if a price in it changes we will say so in the release notes before the change applies.

The rules:

  • Credits are spent per action, at the moment the action starts, and they are counted on our server, not on your device. The balance shown in the app is a display value.
  • The monthly allowance resets when your subscription renews, and does not roll over. Unused allowance credits are gone at the start of the new period. This is what makes the price predictable.
  • Top-up credits never expire and are spent only after the monthly allowance is used up.
  • A refused request is not charged. If the relay declines a question as out of scope, or fails with a server error, you keep the credit.
  • Credits have no cash value, cannot be transferred between people or devices beyond your own Apple ID, and cannot be exchanged for money. They are consumed inside Fihris only.
  • To keep the service usable for everyone, requests are limited to one at a time, with an hourly and a daily ceiling on credits. Normal use never reaches them.

5. Renewal, cancellation and refunds #

Fihris Intelligence renews automatically at the end of each period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends. Apple charges your Apple Account.

Cancel through Apple, not through us: on your device, open Settings ▸ tap your name ▸ Subscriptions ▸ Fihris Intelligence ▸ Cancel subscription. Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep the credits you have already paid for until the current period ends.

Refunds are handled by Apple, because Apple is the merchant. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. We cannot issue a refund for an App Store purchase ourselves, but write to [email protected] if something went wrong and we will help you make the case.

If a purchase is refunded or revoked, the credits it paid for are removed from your balance.

6. What Fihris Intelligence is for #

Fihris Intelligence answers questions about the papers in your library. What they say, how they were done, what they found, how they relate to each other, and where the gaps are. It plans literature searches, drafts summaries and matrices, and helps you cite while you write.

It is not a general-purpose chat service and will decline other requests. It will not write or debug your code, hold an unrelated conversation, translate arbitrary text, or do work that has nothing to do with the papers you gave it. When a request falls outside that scope, it replies with one fixed sentence:

I can only help with questions about the papers in your library.

That sentence is not a judgement of you and it costs you nothing — an out-of-scope request is never charged. If you think a refusal was wrong, see Support; a refusal you disagree with is useful to us and we would like to hear about it.

You also agree not to:

  • use the relay through anything other than the Fihris app, or try to bypass its purchase checks, device verification or rate limits;
  • share one subscription across many people or devices to get around the allowance;
  • try to make the model produce content that breaks Anthropic's usage policy, or use Fihris to generate content that is illegal or that harms someone;
  • deliberately feed the relay papers whose text is written to hijack the model.

Answers are generated by a language model. They can be wrong. Check the citation — every answer points at the exact paper and page it came from, which is what those pointers are for — and do not rely on Fihris as the only source for anything that matters.

7. If you repeatedly go outside the scope #

We measure abuse by counting, never by reading. Fihris counts how often a subscription's requests are refused as out of scope or flagged as an attempt to manipulate the model. It does not store your questions or excerpts, and nobody at Fihris reads them to investigate a count.

  • After 10 refusals in a day, that subscription is slowed to about one request per minute for 24 hours, with a plain message explaining why.
  • After three such days, relay access for that subscription is suspended until you write to [email protected] and we sort it out.

Neither step ever removes Fihris Pro or cancels your subscription, and neither touches your Library. The app keeps working in full on your device, on Apple's private cloud, and with your own key. If you believe a slow-down or suspension is a mistake, email [email protected] with your App Store transaction identifier and we will look at the counts.

8. Availability of the service #

Fihris Intelligence depends on a server we run and on Anthropic's service. Neither is guaranteed to be available at all times, and we do not offer a service-level commitment.

Fihris is designed so that losing the relay is an inconvenience, not a failure. There is a switch that turns the relay off for everyone, and we will use it if we have to — for a security problem, a cost problem or an upstream outage. When that happens, or when the relay is simply unreachable, the app says so plainly and keeps working on the other routes: your device, Apple's private cloud, and your own Claude or ChatGPT key. Your Library, reader, notes, annotations and manuscripts are local and are unaffected.

If Fihris Intelligence is unavailable for an extended period, contact [email protected]; Apple handles any refund.

We may change or discontinue parts of the service. If we discontinue Fihris Intelligence, we will stop new subscriptions first, tell existing subscribers in the app and by release note, and let the current period run out.

9. No accounts #

Fihris has no account, no sign-in and no password. Your entitlement travels with your Apple Account through the App Store. Restore purchases, in Settings, brings a purchase back on a new device — you never pay twice.

A consequence worth knowing: because there is no account, the only way we can identify your subscription for support, for a data request or for a deletion request is your App Store transaction identifier. Keep the confirmation email Apple sends you, or read it in Settings ▸ AI ▸ Fihris Intelligence.

10. Liability #

To the extent the law allows, Fihris is provided as it is, without warranties beyond those in Apple's standard EULA and those that cannot be excluded. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for work you lose by not keeping your own backups, or for decisions you make on the strength of a model-generated answer you did not check against the cited paper.

Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

11. Governing law #

These terms are governed by the laws of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and disputes are subject to the courts of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Saudi consumer law. If you buy in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the mandatory consumer rights given to you by Saudi law, including the E-Commerce Law and its implementing regulations, apply in full. Nothing in sections 5, 8 or 10 limits or waives them, and where those sections and the law differ, the law prevails.

12. Changes to these terms #

We may update these terms. The date at the top changes, material changes are announced in the app's release notes, and a change that affects what the subscription costs or what it does takes effect at your next renewal — not mid-period.
